During the initial setup process, the gadget is commonly given the owner’s name. A fresh name might be helpful in the case of a change of ownership. Open System Preferences on your Mac. To do this, click on the gear icon in the Dock. Alternatively, you can also access the settings via the apple menu in the upper left corner.

Now switch to the “Shares” menu.

Here you can change the name of the device. Simply type the new name into the text field. The name will then update automatically and be displayed on the network. If the menu is locked with a lock icon, you must first click on the lock at the bottom left and then enter your Mac password if necessary.

  1. Open System Preferences by either clicking on the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the notification bar and then selecting “System Preferences…” or by going to the gear icon in the Dock.
  2. Now navigate to the “Shares” settings menu.
  3. If the menu is saved with the closed lock icon at the bottom left, first click on it and enter your device password to open the lock.
  4. In the “Computer Name” text box at the top, you can then change the device name of your Mac. Simply enter the new name. The new device name is then taken over and also displayed on the network.
