How to make GIFs with iPhone
  1. If you don’t already have a live photo on your iPhone that you can make a GIF from, you’ll first need to turn on Live Photos on your iPhone camera. To do this, tap the icon with the circles in the upper right corner while the camera is open. If the icon is crossed out, it is turned off. Tap it once to activate Live Photos mode.

Now, when you take a picture, not only the momentary shot is saved, but also about two seconds before and after the photo as well. Now take a photo that you want to convert to a GIF.

  1. Now open your picture in the Photos app. If you scroll all the way down in the Albums overview, you can open the “Live Photos” folder here. This will probably help you find your pictures faster.

Tap the “Live” button at the top left. A drop-down menu opens. Here you can select either “Loop” or “Bounce“. With the “Loop”, the live image is simply played endlessly one after the other. In the case of “Bounce”, it is also played endlessly, but keeps forward and backward – similar to the well-known Boomerang effect. So you have now created a GIF from a photo on your iPhone.

  1. If you don’t already have a live photo that you want to create a GIF from, set your camera to “Live” first. To do this, tap the circle icon in the top-right corner of the Camera app. Then, take a picture you want to make a GIF from.
  2. Open the Photos app and tap on your Live Photos.
  3. At the top left, you’ll see the “Live” option. Select it to open a drop-down menu. You can now create a GIF from your picture via the “Loop” or “Bounce” options.
