In the past, when WhatsApp users sent pictures, the app automatically made the images smaller and less detailed, reducing them to 920 x 1280 resolution. This was done to save space and make sharing images quick, especially on slow internet connections.
However, with the recent update, users now have a new choice. They can send pictures to their friends and family in what’s called “HD quality.” This means the pictures will be in higher detail, with a resolution of 3024 x 4032. The CEO of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg, shared this update in a post on Facebook.
The app’s version 23.16.0 introduces an “HD” button on the photo sharing screen, placed alongside other tools for editing images. When you tap this button, a small window appears, letting users switch from the default Standard Quality to the new HD Quality.
How to Send HD Photos Over WhatsApp
- Begin by opening a current WhatsApp chat or initiating a new one.
- Tap the + symbol located adjacent to the text box, and then opt for Photo & Video Library.
- Pick a photo with high resolution from your collection.
- Tap the HD icon situated near the upper section, choose the HD option, and press the Done button.
In case you cannot spot the HD icon, it suggests the image is relatively smaller. Typically, any picture captured using your iPhone’s front or back camera meets the criteria for HD quality. The individual receiving the photo will observe an HD tag, signifying that the photo was dispatched using this function.
